Ada CRC’s Kids Hope USA program is a ministry to children in our neighborhood. Our church partners with Ada Elementary School in a mentoring program that gives hope to a child through a relationship with a caring member of our church.
Volunteer mentors promise to go to the school and see the child they have been partnered with for one hour each week during the school year. Love guides each mentor to be "Jesus with skin on" to their child. (I John 3:18) KHUSA is a ministry of “presence”, not “proclamation”, in which our mentors make themselves available to children on a weekly basis. We recognize the power of prayer, so each mentor and child also has a prayer partner from our church who prays for them each week. (James 5:16b)
Last year we had 16 volunteer mentors who helped second, third and fourth graders. Since starting our program in the fall of 2006, we have made visible progress in helping the children we see. Parents, teachers, and administrators have noticed positive changes in the students' attitude, behavior, self-concept and/or social development. Even academics are strengthened because another caring adult believes in them and applauds their efforts.
If you would like to be involved in Kids Hope as a mentor or a prayer partner, we’d love to have you.
